the world can be very unfair

the world can be very unfair.

sure, world crises chance upon us without signed- sealed-and delivered warnings.

the tsunami in asia.

the famine in niger, africa.

the incessant terror attacks.

and so much more.

what i cannot fathom is, why is it given more attention when these things happen in the western world?

a week ago the gulf of mexico in the united states saw thousands of americans devastated with the effects and aftermath of Katrina.

the reaction? the most of the world's nations, even those as poor as the Philippines offered help.

in africa MILLIONS were STARVING TO DEATH two months ago.

who reacted? a few european nations who had interests in the huge and national resources-rich continent of africa and the world food program of the united nations? anyone else? only the british broadcasting corporation.

is it because there are more media workers in the US than africa? more cameras mean more public exposure thus more sympathy?

or it is because the human race believes "those in africa are used to not having anything to eat/ drink/ wear anyway"?

heck, crises strip you raw. and people require all the same basic needs.

im not saying the victims of hurricane katrina are at fault or that they should not be offered help. im just crying out loud for the outright bias the "civilized society" has.

what made the difference? perhaps the world couldn't stand to see its so called big brother look not so tough for even a week...

homecoming

i just made it final and official. i am out of adamson university.

i may have graduated some months back, but it was only two days ago that i surrendered (fianally!) my ID. what can be more official than that right?

it was diffucult going back to the school and thinking well, of course the reality never lives up to the memory...

all but a few friends remain in the school's ivy colored halls.

there are no more calls from accross the street of san marcelino for me to hurry up for i am late for class.

the guards are extremely nice all of a sudden. and they called me "ma'am", which is a first and is especially rare for them.

the vendors from the so called 'stair bucks' were ever so gracious to offer an extra calamansi, would you believe?

i do truly miss the excitement of the academe- the study, the work, the people behind it.

haay.... its another one of those days....
